The Danube Delta
A natural paradise which lies where the river Danube meets the Black Sea, where the big river finally ends its long journey thru Europe, a 2860 km road from its spring which lies in the Black Forest Mountains in Germany. For centuries , the surface of the Danube Delta extended because of the alluvial deposits brought by the river, creating this way a large network of canals, lakes and thatch covered islands, tropical forests and sand dunes which cover a surface of almost 5640 square km. This incredible realm accommodates over 300 bird species and countless fish species, while the plants variety covers around 1150 species. The Danube Delta was designated by UNESCO as a Reservation of the Biosphere.
